• An interesting question was asked by a dear friend in Moscow Russia. Eugenia was asking if it is true that the psychological reason why women can't fight a man right away is that women are basically shy. For the record, it is true. But in most part of southeast asia, women do not immediately fight a man because it is in the nature of women to rely under the protection of their men. Some women though, are tough and mentally strong due to environment. A woman who grew up in the tough neighborhood who lives her life in danger on each passing day will surely learn to protect herself even if it means only to shout loud and call for attention. However, women can easily get scared due to many other reasons like trauma, low self esteem, lack of confidence, and so on. But a woman, even if she is scared, when threatened to have her baby or a child taken away from her, will fight to the last blood. You see, a woman will be scared easily if she is the target or the victim. But if the victim is the one whom she loves so much, the woman will die for it. Men have testosterones that trigger their egos to fight at once. Woman do not have testosterones in their bodies. But when a woman decides to fight, it is the "natural survival instinct" that takes over herself. The deadliest woman is the one who is hurt. Or the one who hurts the people she loves. Let me discuss with you more of this next time when we meet.
• What is Badyaakan? The Filipino Martial Arts of empty hands have different names such as Pangamut, Kuntao Silat, and many other names depending on which island it is being practiced. Often times, the ladies in The Philippines being physicaly small and thin, also have a thin chance of surviving an attack from big, abusive, and stronger men. In this case, a lady will need to survive by holding an object in her hand that will give her a bigger chance of not only defending herself but also to destroy her attackers. Therefore, a lady will have to use the opposite art of of empty hands. It is THE ART OF LOADED HANDS. Badyaakan is practiced by holding a piece of object that is small enough to be a weapon, and big enough to create a damage. A Badyaak is traditionally a piece of wood that looks like a fat pen with sharpened points on both ends. The word Badyaak was taken from the the word Bajiak (Badyuk, Bajuk, Badiak depending again on which island it is spoken) which is actually refering to the very tip of the spear. In the northern cordilleras of the Philippines, the tip of the spear can be separated from the pole so that it can also be used as a knife or a dagger for all purposes. The piece of wood that is used in badyaakan was later on changed into a tougher material, which is the horn of a water buffalo or the carabao. Today, people are more concerned about animal welfare and so animal parts are no longer acceptable to be used. Synthetic materials are now the trend in practicing badyaakan and the good news is, it is more damaging than using wood or horn materials. No man in this world can ever survive the impact of a strong badyaak strike. And that is the reason why the ladies have more reasons to fight back.
• The world of combat arts is dominated by men, that's why most women are trying their best to move like their male teachers. The art of badyaakan (or the use of badyaak), is the most simple and yet very deadly and effective way for a woman to defend herself. Not only that, women in the badyaak class will be trained to move according to the natural movements of a gentle lady. Many things are needed to be considered when a lady is learning her combat arts. Supposing she is wearing a skirt or high heel shoes, a lady will not be effective to make a kick. But then, there are still many ways for a beautiful and attractive lady to fight without the hassles of trying to fight like a man. And yes, a gentle lady can be very dangerous. Let me show you how.
